INFORMAL TRANSPORT-SETTLEMENT-TRADING: Manila Travelling Studio 2020

_

This studio was led by Kim Dovey and Reden Recio with 15 students from the MSD travelling to Manila from February 12-23. The studio involved collaboration between staff and students of the Melbourne School of Design and the University of the Philippines. Students undertook analysis and design/planning inventions on one or more of the following issues: informal settlement, citizen-based planning, informal transport and street vending. The focus was on the North Triangle area of Manila (14°39'07.93" N 121°02'10.38" E) and the settlement of San Roque with its associated transit networks, trading and employment opportunities. We worked with the Save San Roque Alliance and community-based organizations within the San Roque community who are faced with forced eviction from houses and land they have occupied and developed over 35 years.
